How to calculate the formula for compressed gas consumption

What is compressed gas consumption?

Compressed air consumption refers to the volume flow of air actually consumed by the compressed air system under certain working conditions, usually in standard cubic meters per minute (Nm³/min) or cubic feet per minute (CFM). It reflects the theoretical amount of gas required for the operation of the equipment and the actual loss.

Common calculation formula

The basic calculation formula is as follows:

  • Theoretical gasconsumption = Σ (rated gas consumption of each gas-consuming equipment × simultaneous use coefficient)
  • Actual gasconsumption = theoretical gas consumption × (1 + leakage rate + gas storage buffer margin)
  • Standard state conversion:Nm ³/min = m³/min × (PAMB/101.325) × (273.15/(273.15 + tAMB)), where PAMBis local atmospheric pressure (kPa) and tAMBis ambient temperature (℃)

Precautions

The calculation shall be calibrated in combination with the on-site measured data. At the same time, the use coefficient is recommended to refer to the industry experience value (e.g. 0.6-0.8), and the leakage rate is generally estimated at 5%-15%; The final selection should leave 10%-20% margin to ensure system stability.
